Palo Alto Renovation
The renovation of this 1920s home retained the original look of its street and entry facades, while opening up the pool and garden facades with floor-to-ceiling windows. The floor plans were edited to give rooms definition, but with an easy flow to other spaces. In the kitchen, a structural steel frame was left exposed to define the “his and hers” work areas. New outdoor dining, living, and entertaining spaces were located adjacent to corresponding interior rooms, creating strong indoor/outdoor connections. Sustainable features included solar hot water, photovoltaic panels, radiant heat, reclaimed wood shelves, recycled blue-jean insulation, and preservation of the existing structure.
